A month ago we were struggling with dangerous, unexpected lows for days on end. I thought I was going to lose my mind.....actually I think I did for a while, because I ran on NO SLEEP for about 2 weeks. We decided to go down by a .5 on her Lantus, putting her at 2 units, and it worked like a charm....couldn't believe I hadn't done it sooner. But, for a short period of time this summer, she was at 3 units of Lantus and I just didn't ever think that I would have to decrease her insulin by that much. So now, we're doing 2 units of Lantus in the morning. It worked like a charm....at first. Now, we're running on the high side of her range most of the time. Her target is 150- with her range being between 100 and 200. I'm liking the fact that we're not having scary lows all the time (last week, we did have a 32, and I'm not really sure what happened there), and her night time numbers are much steadier, she doesn't have to spike in the mid-200s in order to wake up at a safe number. However, I'm not liking the fact that she hangs out above 170 most of the day. A year ago, that may not have bothered me and maybe it still shouldn't, because it's in her "range". But I want better than that without having to constantly be on the lookout for low blood sugars!!!
We have an appointment coming up...next week I believe. A1C, the whole bit. I don't think we'll have that 6.8 again, but that's okay. That 6.8 came with more lows than she should have had. I'll be happy with anything in the 7's, I think! :) Also, we're getting serious about the pump at this appointment and I'm SO looking forward to moving ahead with a pump. It's way beyond time!

It's so frustrating, isn't it? Just when you think you've got it, diabetes goes and changes the rules. We're experiencing the same kind of thing right now. I think you'll love the pump! Good luck!
Ah hunny bunny I know what you are going through and yeah the big d does not have any rules at all . I think you will see a difference with a pump . Let us all know how it does .
What frustration. I'm glad that Jada's numbers look better than they did. You will love the pump. I promise.
I don't understand how it changes so fast... Your doing great though, and hope you get some good rest.
I hope the pump works for you!!
Were doing the same thing... crazy lowes... we adjusted... now were high. Gotta love it!
You'll see a big difference with the pump, b/c you can tweak the times and give her more at certain times of the day -- less at others.
I can't wait to hear all about your pumping journey. WOOHOO!!!!
(((HUGS)))
You're doing a fantastic job!
Yay for the pump!!! It will be a little complicated at first...but it will be your best friend in no time at all! Let us know how we can help you along in your pumping journey!
PS Not a fan of the highs and lows roller coaster. We try to stay off of it...but it keeps just picking us up and taking us for a ride whether we like it or not!
So excited for you! The pump will work wonders, but don't expect immediate results...it's been a month for me and I am still struggling with highs in the morning. Getting it figured out takes time and patience (I've been told).
I also love your background. Happy holidays!
Also you might think about a CGMS when she's a little older, it's a good way to avoid lows and keep the a1c at the 6 point without the scary lows.
So very frustrating! Hang in there. I am also looking into the pump for Nate. It seems so scary and foreign to me so please keep me posted. Our next appt. is on the 14th of December.
Oh the pump will change your life! I mean it comes with a learning curve and relearning what she needs because instead of a long acting insulin she gets the fast acting throughout the day. But it is great! We have been struggling with Syd's numbers too and it is so frustrating. We had an appt with her CDE today and i'm hoping the changes they made will help us.
sometimes they adapt to the dose. I don't know why.. sometimes it's really quick and sometimes it isn't. after awhile, you just know it will happeh. Bretts done that more times than I care to count. S She will level off. Diabetics always do!
Another blog for you love!
